May I be your ransom! We have awakened to a time

whose vicissitudes' eyes sleep, oblivious to us.

And time has graciously granted us a reunited company,

drawn together after its binding thread had snapped.

    Wine resembling apples melted down,

and apples as though the wine had congealed.

And richly patterned fabrics from spring's weaving,

on whose borders the clouds have lavished their art.

And the sounds of third and second lute strings,

like the cooing of doves in the groves.

And one brimming with youth, whose beauty holds

    wonders that words cannot encompass.

From his twisted temple-locks he has a sword-belt,

and from the glances of his eyes, a keen sword.

And our gathering, for all it holds, is faulted

for incompleteness, and you are what makes it whole.

And do not use your duties as an excuse; come

    in haste—or else, farewell!
