الجسدthe body البالغreaching the utmost فيin لينهits softness
الجسد البالغ في لينه
تعشقهloves it الروحthe spirit ولاand does not تفركهhate it
تعشقه الروح ولا تفركه
The body that has attained perfection in softness—
The body that has reached the utmost softness,
the spirit loves it and does not forsake it.
The spirit loves it and does not hate it.
والجسدand the body المنحلُseparated عنfrom روحهits spirit
والجسد المنحلُ عن روحه
فروحهthen its spirit إنif تركتis left تتركهabandons it
فروحه إن تركت تتركه
But the body parted from its spirit—
And as for the body separated from its spirit,
its spirit, if forsaken, forsakes it.
Its spirit, if left alone, will abandon it.
واللزجand the viscous substance الرطبmoist لهit has قوةstrength
واللزج الرطب له قوة
يقاتلfights النيرانthe fires إذwhen تدركهthey reach it
يقاتل النيران إذ تدركه
The viscous moist substance possesses a power
And the viscous, moist substance has strength;
to battle the flames when they reach it.
It fights the fires when they reach it.
وفيand in اللطيفthe subtle substance الرطبmoist عجزinability عنto الthe
وفي اللطيف الرطب عجز عن ال
تصعيدsublimation للجسمof the body فلاso it does not يملكهhave power over it
تصعيد للجسم فلا يملكه
Yet in the subtle moist substance lies an inability to—
And the subtle, moist substance is powerless to effect the

وبالقويّand with the strong substance الرطبmoist تدبيرهits treatment
وبالقويّ الرطب تدبيره
يصعدهraises it فيin الجوthe air أوor يمسكهholds it
يصعده في الجو أو يمسكه
By the strong moist substance is the body governed:
And its treatment is with the strong, moist substance:
it raises it into the air or holds it fast.
