يا رَبِّ إِن كان عيشي هكذا غُصصَاً

فامنُنْ عليَّ بموتٍ فهو أروحُ لي

O my Lord, if my life is thus filled with choking grief,

O Lord, if my life remains full of bitterness,

Then grant me death, for it is more restful for me.

Then bless me with death, for it is more soothing to me.

ثُكلٌ وفُرقةُ أحبابٍ ومَرزأةٌ

ثُكلٌ وفُرقةُ أحبابٍ ومَرزأةٌ

في المالِ والأهل والأتباع والخَوَلِ

في المالِ والأهل والأتباع والخَوَلِ

Bereavement, separation from loved ones, and loss

Loss and separation from loved ones and contempt,

In wealth, family, followers, and servants.

In wealth, family, followers and power.
