إِذا هممتُ بأمرٍ دونَهُ خَطَرٌ

إِذا هممتُ بأمرٍ دونَهُ خَطَرٌ

فصوِّبا فيه رأيي واتْرَكا عَذَلي

فصوِّبا فيه رأيي واتْرَكا عَذَلي

If I resolve upon a venture with danger in its way,

When I aim for something with peril ahead

Then endorse my judgment in it, and cease reproaching me.

Then make my opinion right in it and leave my blame

ولا تشيرا بنُصحٍ فيه معجزةٌ

ولا تشيرا بنُصحٍ فيه معجزةٌ

فالنصحُ ليس بناهٍ عزمةَ البطلِ

فالنصحُ ليس بناهٍ عزمةَ البطلِ

And offer no counsel in which there is weakness,

And do not advise any miracle in it

For counsel cannot restrain a hero’s resolve.

For advice is not supportive of the hero's determination

وساعدانيَ في غيّي وفي رَشَدي

وساعدانيَ في غيّي وفي رَشَدي

وشارِكانيَ في صابي وفي عَسَلي

وشارِكانيَ في صابي وفي عَسَلي

And help me in my error and in my sound judgment,

And aid me in my folly and in my reason

And share with me my bitter sap and my honey.

And share with me in my honey and in my bitterness

فإِنْ بلغتُ مُرادي فهو أرفقُ لي

فإِنْ بلغتُ مُرادي فهو أرفقُ لي

وإنْ لقِيتُ حِمَامي فهو أروحُ لي

وإنْ لقِيتُ حِمَامي فهو أروحُ لي

For if I attain my desire, that is kinder to me,

For if I achieve my desire then that is best for me

And if I meet my death, that is more restful for me.

And if I meet my fate then that is most soothing for me
