ومُرّوِحٍand one who refreshes سِرّيmy inmost heart سرورُthe joy لقائِهof meeting him
لولاwere it not for اتصالُthe connection فنائِهof his perishing ببَقَائِهِto his continued existence
And one whose meeting would refresh my inmost heart with joy,
And a secret pleasure in meeting him
were his perishing not bound to his continued existence.
If not for the connection of his transience with his permanence
يحكيresembles القضيبَthe slender branch قوامُهhis stature ونحولُهand his slenderness
حسناًin beauty وضوءُand the light البدرِof the full moon منamong أسمائِهِhis names
His stature and slenderness resemble a branch
His slender figure and leanness tells of his beauty
in beauty, and the full moon's light is among his names.
Like the brilliance of the full moon among his attributes
فيسرُّنِيso he gladdens me ليلاًat night بحسنِwith the beauty of وفائِهhis faithfulness
ويسوؤُنيand he grieves me صُبْحاًat dawn بقبحِwith the ugliness of جفائِهِhis estrangement
So he gladdens me at night with the beauty of his faithfulness,
He brings me joy at night with his loyalty
and grieves me at dawn with the ugliness of his estrangement.
And grieves me at dawn with his cruelty

كُلٌّeach يعلِّلُconsoles نفسَهُhimself برجائِهِwith his hope
He laments longing for his companion, and at daybreak
He complains of yearning for the intimate one and transgresses
each consoles himself with his hope.
Each justifying himself with his own hopes
أبكيI weep فيبكيso he weeps غيرَexcept أَنَّthat دموعَهhis tears
صِرفٌunmixed ودمعيand my tears ممزجٌmingled بدمائِهِwith his blood
I weep, so he weeps, except that his tears
I cry so he cries, except that his tears
are unmixed, while mine are mingled with his blood.
Are self-interest while mine mix with my blood
أُعديI transmit عليهto him لظَىthe blaze فُؤادِيof my heart فالتقَىand then met
نارٌa fire تَحَدَّثُspeaks عنof لَظَىthe blaze بُرَحائِهِof his anguish
I pass my heart's blaze to him, and it is met by
I attack him with the intensity of my passion so it met
a fire that speaks of the blaze of his anguish.
A fire that speaks of the intensity of his confusion
أمعذَّبٌis a tormented one والنارُwhile the fire فيat عَذَباتِهِhis tips
كمعذَّبٍlike a tormented one والنارُwhile the fire فيin أحشائِهِhis entrails
Is a tormented one, with fire at his tips,
I'm tortured while the fire is in his torments
like a tormented one with fire in his entrails?
Like one tortured while fire is in his entrails
