Live as long as my praise of you: my panegyrics
are immortal so long as anyone remains upon the earth.
are immortal as long as anyone remains on earth.
طلبتyou sought العُلىeminence بالجِدِّthrough diligence وَالجَدُّand good fortune بَيِّنٌevident
طلبت العُلى بالجِدِّ وَالجَدُّ بَيِّنٌ
وَحَظُّكَand your share مِنfrom كُلِّeach of الفَريقَينِthe two sides وافِرُabundant
وَحَظُّكَ مِن كُلِّ الفَريقَينِ وافِرُ
You sought the heights through fortune and earnest striving—both are manifest—
You sought eminence through diligence; good fortune is plain,
and your share of both companions is abundant.
and your share from both sides is abundant.
كَأَنَّكَas though you are مَغناطيسa magnet for كلevery فَضيلَةvirtue
كَأَنَّكَ مَغناطيس كل فَضيلَة
فَلاso no فَضلexcellence إِلّاexcept وَهوَwhile it is نَحوَكَtoward you سائِرُmoving
فَلا فَضل إِلّا وَهوَ نَحوَكَ سائِرُ
You are like a magnet for every virtue:
You are like a magnet for every virtue,
no excellence exists but that it journeys toward you.
so no excellence exists but moves toward you.
