تَغَنّى بِأَفنانِ الأَراكِ حَمامُ
Abu Thaʿlab, may your Lord bless you whenever
Abu Tha'lab, may your Lord greet you whenever
doves sing on the branches of the arak trees.
The doves coo in the thickets of Arak trees.
عَلَيكَupon you سَلامpeace مِنfrom أَخٍa brother لكof yours ناصِحٍwell-wishing
عَلَيكَ سَلام مِن أَخٍ لك ناصِحٍ

وَقلَّ لَهُ مِنّي عَلَيكَ سَلامُ
Peace be upon you from a brother who wishes you well;
Peace be upon you from a brother and adviser,
and my 'peace be upon you' is too little for him.
And say to him my peace be upon you.
أَحبI love قرىthe villages of نَجدٍNajd لأَنَكَbecause you قاطِنdwelling
أَحب قرى نَجدٍ لأَنَكَ قاطِن

بهنَّ فَهَل حُبُّ الدِيار حَرامُ
I love the villages of Najd because you dwell
I love the villages of Najd since you live
in them; so is love of those dwellings forbidden?
In them - is the love of homelands forbidden?

To the land of al-Satir, despite the separation, journeys
My heart journeys to the land of Satir on purpose,
my heart; there is no rest along the journey's course.
Yet has no intention of staying there.
