إِذاwhen قُبِضَتis taken نَفسُthe soul of الطِرِمّاحِal-Ṭirimmāḥ أَخلَقَتwill wear out
إِذا قُبِضَت نَفسُ الطِرِمّاحِ أَخلَقَت
عُرىthe bonds of المَجدِglory وَاِستَرخىand will slacken عِنانُthe reins of القَصائِدِpoems
عُرى المَجدِ وَاِستَرخى عِنانُ القَصائِدِ
When al-Ṭirimmāḥ’s soul is taken, worn out will be
When the soul of the archer is taken,
the bonds of glory, and the reins of poetry will slacken.
The bonds of glory are loosed, and the reins of poems are slackened
