كتبتُ وشيناتُ حالي غَلَبْن

عليَّ بمَنْ جَلَّ عن مُشْبِهِ

I wrote, and the shīn-letters of my state prevailed

I wrote verses about my state that prevailed

over me because of one exalted beyond any peer:

Over me, with one who is far above any counterpart

فشوقي إليهِ وشُكْري له

فشوقي إليهِ وشُكْري له

وشعريَ فيهِ وشُغْلي بهِ

وشعريَ فيهِ وشُغْلي بهِ

so my longing for him and my gratitude to him,

So my longing for him, my gratitude to him

and my poetry about him and my preoccupation with him.
