فديتُI would give my life for مسافِراًa traveler ركِبَtraversed الفيافيthe wastelands
فديتُ مسافِراً ركِبَ الفيافي
وأَثَّرَand left its mark فيupon محاسِنِهِhis charms السِّفارُtravel
وأَثَّرَ في محاسِنِهِ السِّفارُ
I would give my life for a traveler who traversed the wastelands;
I ransom a traveler who rode the howdahs
and travel left its mark upon his beauty.
And left his mark on their beautiful trappings
فمسَّكَso perfumed with musk وردَthe roses خدَّيهِhis two cheeks السَّوافيthe dust-bearing winds
فمسَّكَ وردَ خدَّيهِ السَّوافي
وعَنْبَرand perfumed with ambergris مِسْكَthe musk صدغَيْهِhis two temples الغبارُthe dust
وعَنْبَر مِسْكَ صدغَيْهِ الغبارُ
So the dust-bearing winds perfumed the roses of his cheeks with musk,
Who held a rose to his cheeks in farewell
and dust perfumed the musk of his temples with ambergris.
And the dust was ambergris on his temples
