حمدتُ إلهي والزمانَ ذممتُهُ

حمدتُ إلهي والزمانَ ذممتُهُ

فقد طالَما أغرى بقلبي البلابِلا

فقد طالَما أغرى بقلبي البلابِلا

I praised my God, and time I blamed.

I praised my God, and blamed the times,

For so often it has set sorrows upon my heart.

For long has it tempted my heart with trifles.

وعنديَ من لؤمِ الزمانِ دقائقٌ

وعنديَ من لؤمِ الزمانِ دقائقٌ

أُعِدُّ لها من فضلِ ربي جلائلا

أُعِدُّ لها من فضلِ ربي جلائلا

I have petty afflictions from time's baseness;

Yet I have moments from the times' meanness

Against them I marshal great blessings from my Lord's bounty.

For which I prepare, through God's grace, great deeds.
