وكلامٍand speech كدَمْعٍlike tears صَبٍّof a lovesick lover غريبٍfar from home
وكلامٍ كدَمْعٍ صَبٍّ غريبٍ
رَقَّgrew delicate حتىso much that الهواءُthe air يكثُفُis dense عندَهُbeside it
رَقَّ حتى الهواءُ يكثُفُ عندَهُ
And speech like the tears of a lovesick stranger,
Like tears of a stranger shed in vain
grew so delicate that even the air is dense beside it.
The air itself grows thick when he laments
رقَّgrew delicate لفظاًin wording ودَقَّand grew subtle معنًىin meaning فأضْحىand so it became
رقَّ لفظاً ودَقَّ معنًى فأضْحى
كلُّevery سرِّsecret منof البلاغةِeloquence عندَهُwith it
كلُّ سرِّ من البلاغةِ عندَهُ
Delicate in wording and subtle in meaning, it came to possess
With eloquent words and profound meaning
every secret of eloquence.
