وموقفٍand a moment للوداعِfor farewell ألبَسَنيclothed me
وموقفٍ للوداعِ ألبَسَني
للتُّعْسِto misfortune همًّاsorrow يسوءُdistresses موقعُهُits impact
للتُّعْسِ همًّا يسوءُ موقعُهُ
And a moment of farewell clothed me
And a moment of parting clothed me
To my misfortune, in sorrow whose impact was painful.
With sorrow, so ill-placed was its position.
فقلتُso I said والدمعُand the tears قدalready شَرِمْتُI was torn بهby it
فقلتُ والدمعُ قد شَرِمْتُ به
أستودعُI entrust to safekeeping اللهَGod منthe one whom أُودِّعُهُI bid him farewell
أستودعُ اللهَ من أُودِّعُهُ
So I said, already torn by tears:
I said, while my tears flowed copiously:
“I entrust to God the one I bid farewell to.”
"To God's protection I commend those I bid adieu."
