ربَّ يومٍ هواؤُه يتلظَّى

ربَّ يومٍ هواؤُه يتلظَّى

فيحاكي فؤادَ صَبٍّ متيَّمِ

فيحاكي فؤادَ صَبٍّ متيَّمِ

Many a day has air that blazes,

Lord of a day whose air is aflame

and so mirrors the heart of a lover in love's thrall.

So it kindles the heart of an ardent lover

قلتُ إذا صَكَّ حَرُّه حُرَّ وَجْهي

قلتُ إذا صَكَّ حَرُّه حُرَّ وَجْهي

ربَّنا اصرِفْ عنَّا عذاب جَهَنَّمْ

ربَّنا اصرِفْ عنَّا عذاب جَهَنَّمْ

I said, when its heat struck the front of my face:

I said: when its heat scorches my face

Our Lord, turn away from us the torment of Hell.

Lord protect us from the torment of Hell
