فديتُI would give my life for غزالاًa gazelle راقنيdelighted me دُرُّthe pearls of شعرِهِhis verse
فديتُ غزالاً راقني دُرُّ شعرِهِ
كماjust as شاقَنيstirred my longing فيin نطقِهِhis speech دُرُّthe pearls of ثغرِهِhis mouth
كما شاقَني في نطقِهِ دُرُّ ثغرِهِ
I would give my life for a gazelle whose pearls of verse delighted me,
The luster of his hair has won my heart
Just as the pearls of his mouth stirred my longing when he spoke.
Just as the luster of his lips has captivated my soul
إذاwhenever ماan emphatic particle غداhe begins للشعرِfor poetry يُغريhe entices بنظمِهِby stringing it into verse

Whenever he sets about enticing by stringing his verse,
When he begins to recite poetry, enchanting with his rhyme
I set about enticing by scattering a necklace of tears.
I begin to shed tears, enchanted by his prose
وواللهِand by God ماnot أدريI know أسِحْرُis it the magic of جفونِهِhis eyelids
وواللهِ ما أدري أسِحْرُ جفونِهِ

تملَّكَ قلبَ الصبِّ أم سحرُ شعرِهِ
And by God, I cannot tell: is it the magic of his eyelids
By God, I know not whether the magic of his eyelids
That has seized the lovesick lover's heart, or the magic of his verse?
Has enthralled the youth's heart, or the magic of his poetry
