كأجنحةِ الطاووسِ فاشربْ أبا نصرِ
A sky like a hawk’s breast, and the earth beneath it
The sky like a falcon's chest, the earth beneath
Like a peacock’s wings—so drink, Abu Nasr,
Like a peacock's wings, so drink, O Abu Nasr

يؤدِّي غناءَ العندليبِ على قَدْرِ
Wine like a rooster’s eye, made sweeter by a voice
A draught as sweet as a rooster's eye, heard
That renders the nightingale’s song in due measure.
With the melody of a nightingale by the kettle
