    If you wish to secure rewards successfully,

    And to sell the rhymes of your verse at a profit,

    And to journey with praise, seeking a gift,

    To one worthy of entreaty and praise,

    Then go to the houses of al-Azd in Samad, and visit

    The sons of Umar, people of generosity and forgiveness.

    Then you will find wealth and honor, if you lodge

    With lofty Ya'rub, the generous Abu al-Arab.

    For he is the one who, in whatever condition you ask him,

    Beams like a sword and quivers like a spear.

    ويُمسي على كسب المعالي كما يضْحي

    And in generosity, his poverty is like his prosperity;

    And he pursues high honors in the evening, just as in the morning.

    If the object of any need proves inaccessible,

    Through his kindness, a way to success becomes easy.

    And if you come to him, making your way through every hardship,

    He dispels it as dawn's rising dispels the darkness.

    His virtues are like a garden over which the east wind blows,

    So its flowers sway beautifully, sweetly fragrant.

    Ya'rub has indeed attained eminence through generosity,

    While others took a different path, amassing wealth through stinginess.

    Abu al-Arab has claimed perfection for himself, and thus

    All have peacefully agreed to rank him foremost.

    لهُ الحَسَبُ النّاجي من الطّعْنِ والقَدحِ

    And among al-Azd are the forebears of al-'Atik and Mazin;

    His ancestral honor is safe from attack and disparagement.

    يصوبك مْزْن الخَير سحاً على سحِ

    O Abu al-Arab, stay safe and remain in the shade of blessing;

    May clouds of goodness rain upon you, downpour after downpour.

    And grit lies in the eyes of the haters and the envious,

    And their livers are wounded and bleeding with rage.

    And this is sweet praise of you, which you relish,

    Yet your excellence needs neither words nor explanation.
