From you, bounty; from me, gratitude and hope for more.
From you comes bounty, from me gratitude and longing
And wherever the rain falls, there is pasture to seek.
Wherever the rain falls becomes a place of resort

You have accustomed me to gracious treatment, Abu Hasan,
Good custom, Abu Hassan, has accustomed me
So away from you I find neither patience nor contentment.
That I have no patience or contentment without you

Never has my hope glimpsed from you the light of a lightning flash
No glimmer of hope from you ever shone
Without finding rain pouring down in successive torrents.
Except that it met pouring rain in profusion

May you rejoice in the rain of favors you bestow
The rain of your generous hands, you who placed them
Upon me—they are, by my life, the finest things you bestow.
With me, brings me the greatest joy that can be placed

For it is one like you who has bestowed kindness on me
For one like you, most generous to me
Freely; and one like me is won over by kindness.
Gives freely while one like me contrives gratitude

You have never bestowed favors on me without their being repaid
You never granted me a boon except I met it
By a tongue moist with fine praise that never ceases.
With juicy words of unceasing praise

And I have an eloquent tongue among Banu Umar;
And I have an eloquent tongue among the sons of Umar
In my thanks, I devise a new theme concerning you.
To thank you, meanings invented just for you

والمنعمينand those who grant favors بلاwithout منٍّreminding others of favors إذاwhen نفعواthey help
Those who do good without delay when they promise,
The benefactors without delay when they promise
And grant favors without reminding others of them when they help.
And the favor-givers without stint when they grant

And you, O Dhuhl, are a lord among them, a beacon,
And you, O Zuhl, are foremost among them, learned
Firm in resolve, neither slack nor weak.
Resolute, not hesitant or cowering

And may your life be long, and may you grow more open-handed,
Long may you live and increase the outstretching of a hand
You rise above the highest rank and ascend still higher.
Rising above the highest rank and ascending

Lofty, you have scaled a height at the summit of glory,
Exalted, you have taken on nobility from the branch of the lofty
As an ibex scales the summit of a towering mountain.
As the towering summit takes on cracks and crevices
