Do not reproach me, you two, if I weep over ruined traces,
Do not blame me if I weep over visions,
and recall an old bond with the beloved.
And recall a love from long ago,

And I yearned when I sought, from the gleam of lightning,
And yearn when I want from the tablet of splendor,
a glimpse, and from the waft of ʿarār a fragrance.

And the companion of longing never ceases to watch
The companion of youth still watches,
for a lightning flash and a breeze from every horizon.
From every horizon, flashing and breezy,

The paths where displaced lovers roam,
love had left a creditor with me because of them.
As if separation left within me, a grieving friend,

As for passion, it came to me at night,
on the day of parting; and indeed I pass the night ill.

If I miss the face of the beloved, then I
have been given Ibrahim's face in its place.
Replace it with the face of Ibrahim,
