Does every Yemenite's course in generosity

match Abu Hasan's course in beneficence?

Does every Azdite, like Dhuhl, have a custom

    of kindness, practiced everywhere?

As for Abu Hasan, well known are his

bountiful favors, from hand and tongue.

And when kings boast, his is an ancestral stock

growing among the Azd, reaching back to Qahtan.

And when the rain clouds withhold a drop, he has

two palms that drip rain in their generosity.

Al-Atik inherited the Azd's legacy; then

the honor of al-Atik passed to the sons of Nabhan.

And Dahl among them was distinguished by valor,

and generosity, eloquence, and clear expression.

Yours, O Abu al-Hasan, are all noble virtues.

Perfection is found in no human being but you.

And you are indeed most worthy of praise, for we say:

O first in excellence, you have no second!

And may you remain, O son of Abu al-Mu'ammar, maintaining

the edifice of your glory, the finest of buildings.
