I reproach my soul for its eagerness and striving,
I blame myself for its greed and effort,
and, out of love, excuse it when poverty weighs it down.
And I excuse it out of love when poverty subdues it.

And it claims no dignity, now that I see
And whatever pride it claims after what I see,
its abasement and submission to the hands of wishes.
The hands of hopes humiliated and made it submit.

Yet sometimes it finds purity in its quest,
Yes, perhaps it found the integrity of a request,
when it finds what it desires among kings.
When it found favor with kings and attained its desire.

A path was opened to it within the house of Nabhan,
It was allowed in the family of Nubahan a doctrine,
which spared it reliance on the unrighteous.
That sufficed it apart from the support of the righteous.

If you choose to seek the Azdite community,
When the Al Azdi faction chose its aim,
then turn to the sons of Nabhan—its bounty will reach you—
The Bani Nubahan hastened to match its generosity.

With the honor that clothed it in robes of splendor.

By my life, how many favors have been counted to his credit,
By my life! How many favors were counted for him
for a grave calamity he spared it, or a blessing he bestowed upon it.
With the sheen of his palm or the bounty he granted.

He has gained, from the heart and eye of meanings,
It possessed the hearts of meanings and their essence
the heart's black core and the eye's pupil among Ya'rub.
Were made white in eloquence and blackened by prose.

You see in his hands the rain cloud of bounty; whenever
You see in his hands the cheek of generosity whenever
a thirsty man's palm gestures toward him, he rains upon it.
A thirsty palm gestures, and it flows.

When hopes pour forth, he gives them a second draught of kindness;
When hopes drew near in righteousness, perhaps
and if he first grants a favor to a hopeful seeker, he grants it again.
The bounty would initiate and repeat itself.

So may his Maker bless him and keep him alive for a span
So its Creator revived it and gave it life for a duration
to the farthest limit, prolonging its duration.
To the farthest time-limit, prolonging its extension.
