    This tea deserves to be described,

    In a serene gathering and on a clear day,

    In a gathering no blemish had marred,

    Free of those given to obscenity and rudeness.

    It held only a noble lord,

    Or a lute, or a slender-waisted young gazelle.

    It gathered the man of letters, al-Naji al-Murtada,

    And the esteemed Yusuf, son of al-Murtada.

    And in it is Akhnath, the maiden who

    Holds within her a cure for the sick man's ailments.

    Her face is sun-like; when she faces

    The morning sun, you are sure it will be unveiled.

    And the tea is select, choice tea,

    From the finest select, choice tea.

    تَخَالُ بَدرَ التَّمِّ فِيهَا اختفي

    A halo appears upon its cups;

    You imagine the full moon has hidden within it.

    إنَّ شِفَاءَ النَّفسِ أن تَرشُفَا

    Sipping from them heals a young man's soul;

    Indeed, the soul's cure is for you to sip.
