O daughter of the world, and manifestation of its beauty,

and tempestuous death from the fire of its sorrow,

how have I never met you as

the people who tasted its love met you?

They swallowed you and savored you as dew,

wondrous, and as bliss and ease.

content at times, and at times wrathful,

a captive of two tyrants: my soul and its desire.

I, O my cup, you who withered me,

am the one who watered your vineyard with aged wine.

my life drops of scalding water.

for I am the living company of drinkers and the boon companion.
