غنيsing! يَاO عَيشَʿAysh إِنَّindeed حِينَwhen تُغنيyou sing
تَطرُدُrejects الأُذُنُthe ear شَدوَthe song of كُلَّevery مُغَنِّsinger
Sing, O ʿAysh, for when you sing,
Sing, O life, for when you sing
the ear rejects the song of every singer.
The ear casts out the song of every singer,
وَابرِزِىand show الوَجهَthe face إِنَّindeed ذَينِthose two شِفَاءٌa cure
وَمُنًىand hopes لِلمُحِبِّfor the lover والمُتَمَنِّيand the one who yearns
And show your face, for those two are a cure
And show your face, for in you is a cure
and the hopes of the lover and the one who yearns.
And an attainment for the lover and the wistful one.
غَيرَexcept أنthat لَيسَthere is not لِىfor me لَدَيكِin your presence تَأنِّpatience
لَيتَif only لِىfor me حِينَwhen قُلتِyou said أنَّىhow?
Yet I have no patience in your presence.
Except that I have with you no composure -
If only I had had patience when you said, “How?”
If only when you said "be patient" I could be patient!
