Shunning tea brings a man reproach,

for noble guests are honored with it.

And ignoble guests, too, have not been content

with anything else—the worst guests are the ignoble.

So a man of standing dwells in a land

where his standing does not decline.

A land that lowers a discerning man's standing

offers the discerning man no pleasant stay.
