أيَا عُلَماءَ العَصرِ دُونَكُمُ حُكماً

أيَا عُلَماءَ العَصرِ دُونَكُمُ حُكماً

غَرِيباً وكُنتم عَن غَرَبَتِه بُكمَا

غَرِيباً وكُنتم عَن غَرَبَتِه بُكمَا

O scholars of the age, here is a judgment for you—

O scholars of this age, you have passed a strange judgment, while remaining silent about its strangeness,

a strange one, though you were mute about its strangeness.

Remove the thorns of truth, so it may rise up, and guide those who miss the mark of truth, though their arrow aims right,

أقِيلُوا عَثَارَ الحَقِّ يَنهَض وسَدِّدُوا

أقِيلُوا عَثَارَ الحَقِّ يَنهَض وسَدِّدُوا

لِمَن رَامَ رَمىَ الحَقِّ إِن اخطَا السَّهمَا

لِمَن رَامَ رَمىَ الحَقِّ إِن اخطَا السَّهمَا

Help truth recover from its stumble so it may rise, and correct the aim

Bite with the molars of the faith of the Prophet Muhammad, which cannot be blunted by idle talk and rumors,

for whoever seeks to hit truth, if he misdirects the arrow.

How long will you pasture it, when you cannot protect it from time, so that it may be protected?

وعُضُّوا عَلَى دِينِ النبي محمدٍ

وعُضُّوا عَلَى دِينِ النبي محمدٍ

نَواجِذَ تُصمى التُّرَهَاتِ ولاَ تُصمَى

نَواجِذَ تُصمى التُّرَهَاتِ ولاَ تُصمَى

And bite down upon the faith of the Prophet Muhammad

At a time when the opponent turned away from it, there was no opponent,

with molars that slay idle falsehoods and are not slain.

ألَمَّايَكُ استَرعَيتُمُوا وهَل لَهُ

ألَمَّايَكُ استَرعَيتُمُوا وهَل لَهُ

إذَا كَانَ لاَ تحمُونَه الدهرَ أن يُحمَى

إذَا كَانَ لاَ تحمُونَه الدهرَ أن يُحمَى

Were you not entrusted with its care? And can it,

if you never protect it, be protected?

عَلَى حِينِ غابَ الخَصمُ عَنها فَلا خَصما

عَلَى حِينِ غابَ الخَصمُ عَنها فَلا خَصما

At a time when the adversary was absent from it—so no adversary.
