أَعَائِشُO A’isha إِنَّindeed لِلدُّنيَاthe world has صُرُوفَاturns of fortune
تَلَذُّare sweet لِمَنto whoever يَكُونُis بِهَاwith her عَرُوفَاwell acquainted
O A’isha, indeed the world has turns of fortune,
Aishah, the world has its ups and downs
Sweet to whoever knows her well.
Sweet to those who find it kind
فَلاَso do not يَكُنbe إعتِقَادُكِyour belief أنَّthat فِيهَاin her
مَخُوفاًanything fearsome ماnot إِخَالُI deem بِهَاin her مَخُوفَاanything fearsome
So do not believe that within her lies
So do not think that within it
Anything fearsome; I deem nothing in her fearsome.
There lies anything to fear
ولاَnor يَحزِنكِsadden you إِنif عَبَسَتshe frowned وَصدَّتand turned away
وعَاضَتand substituted مِنin place of مَوَدَّتِهَاher affection عُزُوفَاaversion
Nor be saddened if she frowns and turns away,
Nor let it sadden you if frowning, distant
And exchanges her affection for aversion,
It shuns affection stubbornly
وأبَدَتand bared نَاجِذَيهَاher two molars وأشمَأَزَّتand recoiled in disgust
وأرهَفَتِand sharpened العَوالِىَthe lances والسُّيُوفَاand the swords
And bares her molars and recoils in disgust,
Baring its fangs, recoiling
And whets the lances and swords.
Raising swords and calamities
ولاnor يَطرُيكِflatter you إِنif وَلَّتكِshe offered you لِيناًgentleness لَهَاof hers
وأَرَتكِand showed you قَيهَلَهاher face المَشُوفَاadorned
Nor be flattered if she offers you her gentleness,
Nor let it lift you if gently to you
And shows you her adorned face,
It shows its tender side
وحَفَتكِand surrounded you مَنthose who يَحُفُّكِsurrounds you بالأمَانيwith hopes
فقدfor indeed كَانَتshe was مُصَرِّمَةsevering ties
And surrounds you with those who surround you with hopes,
For it has often tricked
For she was severing ties.
Those it seemed to fortify
