Indeed, Sayyidbih, son of Ahmad Zayid,
The son of Ahmed Zayed is a leader
is a learned scholar who adorned the days of his age.
Whose days have been adorned with wisdom
والصَّالِحُونَand the righteous وأهلُand the people of العِلمِlearning أجمَعُهُمall of them
سَنُّواthey established a custom لَهُfor him فَفتَناًfaftan cloth مِنbecause of حُسنِthe goodness of دَيدَنِهِhis habitual conduct
And the righteous and the people of learning, all of them,
The righteous and all scholars unanimously
made it customary to give him faftan cloth, for his good conduct.
Praised his exemplary character and habit
فَأَعطِهِso give him فَفتَناًfaftan cloth وانصُرand support أوَانَat the time أتَىhe came

So give him faftan cloth, and, when he comes, support
So grant him integrity and help when the time comes
what he seeks therein through his artistry.
For what he seeks with expertise
فَرَدُّهُfor refusing him قَدindeed نَهَانَاforbade us عَنهُfrom it كُلُّevery نَهٍdiscerning person

For every discerning person has forbidden us to refuse him;
But rejecting him is forbidden to us all
and forsaking him in this is forbidden under the upright religious law.
And the noble law discourages it
وَلَمand not يَكُنbe أدَباًcourtesy طَبعاًnaturally ولاَnor حَسناًgood

And, naturally, it was neither courteous nor good
It was neither proper nor good manners
to tear up what was said about giving him his faftan cloth.
To tear apart what he says in his speech
