إِن جِئتَ مَسجِدَ نَجلِ الجِيلِ صَلِّ مَعَه

إِن جِئتَ مَسجِدَ نَجلِ الجِيلِ صَلِّ مَعَه

ولاَ تُرَتِّبهُ وأهجُر خَلفَهُ الجُمَعَه

ولاَ تُرَتِّبهُ وأهجُر خَلفَهُ الجُمَعَه

If you come to the mosque of al-Jil’s son, pray with him.

If you come to the mosque of the son of the generation, pray with him

And do not appoint him as a regular imam, and avoid Friday prayer behind him.

And do not contradict him, and abandon praying behind him on Fridays

ولا تَكُن خَلفَهُ في سُنَّةٍ أبَداً

ولا تَكُن خَلفَهُ في سُنَّةٍ أبَداً

ففي إِمَامَتِهِ الأَحكَامُ مُجتمِعَه

ففي إِمَامَتِهِ الأَحكَامُ مُجتمِعَه

And never pray behind him in a Sunnah prayer.

And never be behind him in a practice, ever

For in his leading of prayer, the legal rulings come together.

For in his leadership, the rulings are united

فَقَد رأَينَا بِه سِيمَا تُؤيِّدُ ما

فَقَد رأَينَا بِه سِيمَا تُؤيِّدُ ما

أخفَاهُ مِن حَالِهِ والنَّاسُ مُطَّلِعَه

أخفَاهُ مِن حَالِهِ والنَّاسُ مُطَّلِعَه

For we have seen in him a sign confirming what

For we have seen in him a sign that affirms what

he has concealed of his condition, and people are aware.

He has concealed of his state, and the people are watching

فَالبَعضُ رَآءٍ لَهُ والبَعضُ سَامِعُهُ

فَالبَعضُ رَآءٍ لَهُ والبَعضُ سَامِعُهُ

ولَيسَ مَن رَآءَ شَيئاً مِثلَ مَن سَمِعَه

ولَيسَ مَن رَآءَ شَيئاً مِثلَ مَن سَمِعَه

For some have seen him, and others have heard of him.

So some flatter him and some listen to him

And one who has seen something is not like one who has heard of it.

And no one who sees something is like one who hears it
