If the ritual slaughterer lifts the razor out of necessity,
When the slaughterer raises the blade out of necessity
It is deemed lawful by them unconditionally, owing to his necessity.
It is permitted for them unconditionally due to his coercion
وَإِنand if يَكُhe is مُختَاراًacting by choice وَطَالتand it lasts long فَمَيتَةٌthen it is carrion
لِتَقصِيرِهِbecause of his negligence فيin رَفعِهِhis lifting it وبِدَارِهِand his hastening
But if he acts by choice and the pause is prolonged, it is carrion,
And if he is willful and it is prolonged, it is carrion
Because of his negligence in lifting it and in promptly resuming.
Due to his negligence in raising it and in his abode
وإنand if رَدَّhe returns it عَنafter قُربٍa short interval فَالأقَوالُthen the opinions خَمسَةٌare five

And if he returns it shortly afterward, there are five opinions:
And if he refrains from closeness, there are five sayings
Eating it is allowed without restriction, for him and his neighbor,
Eating it is permissible for him and his neighbor
سَوَاءًwhether تَوَخَّىhe intended الرِّفعَthe lifting جَرّاًbecause of يَقَينِهِhis certainty

تَمَامcompletion ذَكَاةِof ritual slaughter الذِّبحِof the animal being slaughtered أوor لاختِيَارِهِby his own choice
Whether he intended the lifting because of his certainty
Equally, whether he intended to raise it by compulsion or certainty
That the animal's ritual slaughter was complete, or by his own choice.
Completing the slaughter of the sacrifice or by his choice
وذَاand this عَكسُهُits opposite قَولٌan opinion وَلَمand not أرَI have seen قَائِلاًanyone saying

And the opposite of this is a view; I have seen no one
And its opposite saying, but I did not see a proponent
Report from him that it is weak, or that it is widely held.
Weakening it from him, nor by its publication
وَثَالِثُهَاand the third of them التَّفصِيلُdistinguishing cases والأَكلُand eating it لَمnot يُقَلwas stated

The third distinguishes cases: eating it is not sanctioned
And the third is detailing, and eating was not said
If he lifts it by his own choice, without reluctance.
When raising it by his choice not coerced
وإنand if يَكُis إتمَامُcompletion الذَّكَاةِof ritual slaughter يَقِينَهُhis certainty

But if he was certain the ritual slaughter was complete
And if it is completing the slaughter certainly
When he lifted it, it is lawful for him because of his mistaken confidence.
When raising it, it is permitted for him not fooled
وَرَابِعُهَاand the fourth of them عَكسُthe reverse الأخِيرِof the last وخَامِسٌand a fifth

The fourth reverses the last; a fifth
And fourth is opposite the latter, and fifth
Makes clear that it is disliked when he acts by choice.
His dislike at the time of his choice became clear

So this is the clear path of the scholar al-Tanāʾī, the meeting place
So this beloved scholar Al-Tana'i is the confluence
Of jurisprudence's scattered insights, the ship of its seas.
Of the disciplines of jurisprudential knowledge and its sea
فَلاso … (split word) حِبُهُ… his clear path (continuation) يُهدِيguides الحَيَارَىthe bewildered مَنَارُهُits beacon

So the beacon of his clear path guides the bewildered,
For his love does not guide the perplexed, his lighthouse
Yet many a clear path has a beacon that affords no guidance.
And how many loves do not guide by their lighthouse
