حَلَفتُ بِرَبِّ العَرشِ مَا وُكِّلُ امرُؤٌ

حَلَفتُ بِرَبِّ العَرشِ مَا وُكِّلُ امرُؤٌ

على شَانٍ ضَيفٍ زَائِرٍ مِثلَ مَالِكِ

على شَانٍ ضَيفٍ زَائِرٍ مِثلَ مَالِكِ

I have sworn by the Lord of the Throne: no man has been entrusted

I swear by the Lord of the Throne, no man was ever

with a visiting guest’s care as Malik has.

Assigned responsibility for a visiting guest like Malik.

تَمَالَكَ عَن فِعلِ بالمَذَمَّةِ طَبعُهُ

تَمَالَكَ عَن فِعلِ بالمَذَمَّةِ طَبعُهُ

ولَم يَكُن عَن عَليَاءَ بِالمُتَمالِكِ

ولَم يَكُن عَن عَليَاءَ بِالمُتَمالِكِ

His nature held itself back from blameworthy deeds,

He restrained himself from mean acts though it was his nature,

and did not hold back from lofty honor.

And he was not haughty despite his high rank.

ولا تَعجَبُوا مِن كُلِّ مَأ حَازَ مَالِكٌ

ولا تَعجَبُوا مِن كُلِّ مَأ حَازَ مَالِكٌ

فَذَلِكُمُ مِن فَضلِ مَالِكِ مَالِكِ

فَذَلِكُمُ مِن فَضلِ مَالِكِ مَالِكِ

And do not marvel at all that Malik has attained,

So do not wonder at whatever Malik may have gained,

for that is from the bounty of Malik’s Master.

For that is from the grace of Malik, the Owner.
