لَيتَwould that أنَّاthat we بِهَاover her الحَلِيلَthe husband غَبَنًَّاwe had outwitted
Indeed, what the soul most desires is Banna.
Would that we had outwitted her husband over her.
زَعَمَتclaimed غَانِيَاتُنَاour beauties أنَّthat هُنَّاthey

Our beauties claimed that they
Surpassed Banna in my eyes in love and beauty.
قُلتُI said كَلاَّnot so وكَيفَand how يُمكِنُcan be possible هَذَاthis
وبِقَلبيand in my heart غَرَامُpassionate love بَنَّهBanna أَبَنَّاhas settled
I said, “No! And how could this be,
When love for Banna has settled in my heart?”
كُلُّevery يَومٍday يَجِدُّarises anew لِىfor me بَرحُtorment هَمٍّof worry
مِنfrom هَوَاهَاlove of her إِنَّindeed الجَدِيدَthe fresh grief لُبَنَّاsurely abides
Each day, the torment of worry arises anew for me
From love of her; indeed, the fresh grief abides.
