ألاَ إِنَّ عَبدَ الحَيّ في العِلمِ فَائِقُ

ألاَ إِنَّ عَبدَ الحَيّ في العِلمِ فَائِقُ

وَما ذَاقَهُ مَا ذَاقَهُ قَطُّ ذَائِقُ

وَما ذَاقَهُ مَا ذَاقَهُ قَطُّ ذَائِقُ

Behold, Abd al-Hayy is indeed preeminent in knowledge.

And what he has tasted, no taster has ever tasted.

فَتى كَسرت شَمسُ المَعَارِفِ لُبَّه

فَتى كَسرت شَمسُ المَعَارِفِ لُبَّه

وذَلِكَ في بَعضِ بالخَلاَئِقِ لاَئِقُ

وذَلِكَ في بَعضِ بالخَلاَئِقِ لاَئِقُ

A youth whose intellect the sun of knowledge has shattered;

And that is fitting for some among creation.

فَلاَ تَحسِبَنَّه قَد أُصِيبَ بِجُنَّةٍ

فَلاَ تَحسِبَنَّه قَد أُصِيبَ بِجُنَّةٍ

فَذِلكَ فِيهِ الدَّاهِمَاتُ البَوَائِقُ

فَذِلكَ فِيهِ الدَّاهِمَاتُ البَوَائِقُ

So never think that he has been afflicted with madness;

For in that lie overwhelming, ruinous calamities.
