For Jillīt’s voice among the people in the gathering—
she turns reeds of barren chrysolite
وَتتُركُand she leaves كُلَّall النَّادِىthe assembly حَيرَانَbewildered نَائِماًasleep

and leaves the whole assembly bewildered and asleep;
then the playing of pipes by hand awakens them—
بأحسنَany finer مِنthan صوتِthe voice الخليلِthe dear friend محمدٍMuhammad
إذَاwhen حُمَّis appointed لِلفُتيَانِfor the young men وَقتُthe time التَّغُرُّدِsinging
is no finer than the voice of the dear friend Muhammad,
when the hour of song is appointed for the young men.
