أشبَهتَ وَالِدَكَ الأدِيبَ المُصطفي

أشبَهتَ وَالِدَكَ الأدِيبَ المُصطفي

أدَباً وصِيتُكَ في البَرِيَّةِ قَد طَفَا

أدَباً وصِيتُكَ في البَرِيَّةِ قَد طَفَا

You resemble your father, the man of letters al-Mustafa,

In refinement, and your renown has risen among humankind.

وَرِثتَ مِن عِلمِ الشَّرِيعَةِ والهُدَى

وَرِثتَ مِن عِلمِ الشَّرِيعَةِ والهُدَى

وَصَفَوتَ حَتَّى فُقتَ أربَابَ الصَّفَا

وَصَفَوتَ حَتَّى فُقتَ أربَابَ الصَّفَا

You inherited knowledge of sacred law and guidance,

And grew pure until you surpassed the masters of purity.

وحُيِيتَ مِنهُ مَعَ السَّمَاحَةِ والنَّدَى

وحُيِيتَ مِنهُ مَعَ السَّمَاحَةِ والنَّدَى

خُلُقاً أرَقَّ مِنَ النَّسِيمِ وأَلطَفَا

خُلُقاً أرَقَّ مِنَ النَّسِيمِ وأَلطَفَا

And from him you received, along with generosity and bounty,

A character more tender than the breeze and gentler.

وحَوِيتَ في الصِّغَرِ المَكَارِمَ كُلَّهَا

وحَوِيتَ في الصِّغَرِ المَكَارِمَ كُلَّهَا

وَجَفَوتَ أربَابَ الجَهَالَةَ والجَفَا

وَجَفَوتَ أربَابَ الجَهَالَةَ والجَفَا

And in childhood you possessed every noble virtue,

And shunned those given to ignorance and harshness.

وَعَلِمتَ أنَّ الحَمدَ خَيرُ ذَخِيرَةٍ

وَعَلِمتَ أنَّ الحَمدَ خَيرُ ذَخِيرَةٍ

وبِرِيقِهِ مِن كُلِّ دَاءٍ يُشتفي

وبِرِيقِهِ مِن كُلِّ دَاءٍ يُشتفي

And you knew that praise is the finest treasure,

And with its spittle one is healed of every ill.

فَبَذَلتَ حَتَّى نِلتَهُ وَمَلَكتَهُ

فَبَذَلتَ حَتَّى نِلتَهُ وَمَلَكتَهُ

بِالبَذلِ والمَجدِ المُؤَثَّلِ والوَفَا

بِالبَذلِ والمَجدِ المُؤَثَّلِ والوَفَا

So you gave freely until you attained it and made it yours,

Through giving, firmly rooted glory, and fidelity.

إِنَّ امرَءاً لاَقَاكَ لاَقَى سَيِّداً

إِنَّ امرَءاً لاَقَاكَ لاَقَى سَيِّداً

مُتَقَفِياً نَهجَ الرَّسُولِ المُقتفي

مُتَقَفِياً نَهجَ الرَّسُولِ المُقتفي

Indeed, anyone who meets you meets a master,

Following the path of the Messenger whose example is followed,

مُتَعَزِّراً مُتَذِّلِّلاَ مُتَهَيِّباً

مُتَعَزِّراً مُتَذِّلِّلاَ مُتَهَيِّباً

مُتَهَيِّباً مُتَخَوَّفاً مُتَخَوفاً

مُتَهَيِّباً مُتَخَوَّفاً مُتَخَوفاً

Dignified, humble, reverent,

Reverent, fearful, fearful,

مُتَحَلِّياً مُتَخَلِّياً مُتجَلِّياً

مُتَحَلِّياً مُتَخَلِّياً مُتجَلِّياً

مُتَرَقِياً مَتَرَفِّقاً مُتَلَطِّفَا

مُتَرَقِياً مَتَرَفِّقاً مُتَلَطِّفَا

Adorned with virtue, shedding faults, radiant,

Ascending, gentle, gracious,

مُتَنَسِّكاً مُتَعَزِّزاً مُتَذَلِّلاً مُتَهَيِّباً

مُتَنَسِّكاً مُتَعَزِّزاً مُتَذَلِّلاً مُتَهَيِّباً

مُتَهَيِّباً مُتَخَوَّفاً مُتَخَوفاً

مُتَهَيِّباً مُتَخَوَّفاً مُتَخَوفاً

Devout, dignified, humble, reverent,

Reverent, fearful, fearful.

هَذَا وبُورِكَ في مَقَامِكَ لِلوَرَى

هَذَا وبُورِكَ في مَقَامِكَ لِلوَرَى

وحُيَيتَ مُرهَوبَ الجَنَابِ مُشَرَّفَا

وحُيَيتَ مُرهَوبَ الجَنَابِ مُشَرَّفَا

Thus—and may your station be blessed for humankind,

And may you live, your presence held in awe, honored.

وَرُقِيتَ مِن عَينِ الحَسُودِ وشَرِّهِ

وَرُقِيتَ مِن عَينِ الحَسُودِ وشَرِّهِ

وبَقِيتَ وَألاً لِلعُفَاةِ ومَالَفَا

وبَقِيتَ وَألاً لِلعُفَاةِ ومَالَفَا

And may you be protected by incantation from the envier's eye and his evil,

And remain a refuge and a haven for those seeking bounty.
