O Fatim, many a man who reveals his sorrow,

Who has done nothing all his life but good,

Refined in character, lavish with his bounty,

Whom no drowsiness overtakes when noble deeds are due,

Skilled in lofty pursuits, a suitor who sought your hand,

You rejected, though he had yielded his reins to you.

And you chose al-Mukhtar after him; so take a lesson

From one who breaks his fast on young locusts after a year's fasting.
