أكمَامُAkmam جُنِّبتُI was spared لقاءَencountering الشدةِhardship
أكمَامُ جُنِّبتُ لقاءَ الشدةِ
ونلتِand you (f.) gained محضَpure الحُبِّlove والمودَّةِand affection
ونلتِ محضَ الحُبِّ والمودَّةِ
Akmam, I was spared facing hardship,
And you gained pure love and affection,
فيin كِبرَold age إنif كنتyou were أوor فيin جِدَّةِyouthful freshness
في كِبرَ إن كنت أو في جِدَّةِ
أنتِyou (f.) التىwho سُمِّيتِyou (f.) were named باسِمwith the name of جَدَّتِىmy grandmother
أنتِ التى سُمِّيتِ باسِم جَدَّتِى
Whether you are in old age or in youth.
You are the one named after my grandmother.
فَلَستُso I am not اسمَعُI hear فِيكِabout you (f.) كلاَمَthe talk of الأُمَّةِthe community
فَلَستُ اسمَعُ فِيكِ كلاَمَ الأُمَّةِ
فِيكَabout you (m.) وَلاَعمٍّnor an uncle صَغِيراsmall لهِمَّةِfor resolve
فِيكَ وَلاَعمٍّ صَغِيرا لهِمَّةِ
So I do not heed the community’s talk about you,
Nor, about you, [the talk of] an uncle of little resolve.
