Among today's would-be Zawaya are a few individuals

Who have strayed from their forebears' customary way.

They used to shun anyone it did not befit them

To contend with, even if graves had enfolded him.

It is better for one who seeks to travel to take

A detour, on the way, away from towering mountains.

The sun is not like Suha—certainly not! Nor are

Wolves and lions alike when grappling.

Nor are what is put forward and what is cast aside alike,

Nor are reform and corruption alike.

So the Shaqrawis have souls purified

Of every blemish, and bodies through which they attained eminence.
