ألاَ إِنَّ أُمَّ الخَيرِ سَلَمى أُبُوبَكرِ

ألاَ إِنَّ أُمَّ الخَيرِ سَلَمى أُبُوبَكرِ

لَهَا إبنٌ و أُمُّ الخَيرِ ثُنَمن ِإلَى صَخرِ

لَهَا إبنٌ و أُمُّ الخَيرِ ثُنَمن ِإلَى صَخرِ

Lo, Umm al-Khayr is Salma; Abu Bakr

Indeed, the mother of virtue is Salma, Abu Bakr,

is her son, and Umm al-Khayr traces her descent to Sakhr.

She has a son, and the mother of virtue is protected all the way to Sakhir.

وَهِي بِنتُ عَمِّ الهَاشِمِيّ مُحَمَّدٍ

وَهِي بِنتُ عَمِّ الهَاشِمِيّ مُحَمَّدٍ

وَهِي مِن بني تَيمٍ الغَطَارِفَةٍ الزُّهرِ

وَهِي مِن بني تَيمٍ الغَطَارِفَةٍ الزُّهرِ

And she is the daughter of the paternal uncle of Muhammad the Hashimite,

She is the daughter of the uncle of the Hashemite, Muhammad,

and she is of Banu Taym, the radiant noble chiefs.

And she is from Banu Taym, the Ghatrifah, the flowers.

وَحنتَمَةٌ نَجلُ المُغِيرِة هَاشِمٌ

وَحنتَمَةٌ نَجلُ المُغِيرِة هَاشِمٌ

أبُوهَا ابنُها الفَارُوقُ ذُو المَجدش والفَخرِ

أبُوهَا ابنُها الفَارُوقُ ذُو المَجدش والفَخرِ

And Hantamah—Hashim, the son of al-Mughirah,

And Khantamah, son of Mughirah, Hashim,

is her father; her son is al-Faruq, endowed with glory and pride.

Her father is her son, al-Farooq, the one with glory and pride.

وَهِي مِن بني مَخزُومٍ أروَى أُنسُبَن ِإلَى

وَهِي مِن بني مَخزُومٍ أروَى أُنسُبَن ِإلَى

كُرَيزٍ وعُثمَانُ ابنُها ضَابطُ الذِّكرِ

كُرَيزٍ وعُثمَانُ ابنُها ضَابطُ الذِّكرِ

And she is of Banu Makhzum; trace Arwa's descent to

And she is from Banu Makhzum, the most noble lineage back

Kurayz; Uthman is her son, keeper of the Remembrance.

To Quraysh, and Uthman her son, the keeper of tradition.

أبُوهُ حَبِيبُ عَبدُ شَمسٍ آبٌ لِذَا

أبُوهُ حَبِيبُ عَبدُ شَمسٍ آبٌ لِذَا

وعَبدُ مَنَافٍ آبُّ الآخِرِ في الذِّكرِ

وعَبدُ مَنَافٍ آبُّ الآخِرِ في الذِّكرِ

His father is Habib; Abd Shams is this one's father,

Her father is the beloved of Abd Shams, an exemplar of

and Abd Manaf is the father of the last one mentioned.

And Abd Manaf, the other exemplar in tradition.

وفَاطِمَةٌ تُنمَى إِلى أسَدٍ وذَا

وفَاطِمَةٌ تُنمَى إِلى أسَدٍ وذَا

إِلى هَاشِمٍ يُنمَى عَلِيُّ ابنُهَا فَادرِ

إِلى هَاشِمٍ يُنمَى عَلِيُّ ابنُهَا فَادرِ

And Fatimah is descended from Asad, and he

And Fatimah traced back to Asad and also

is descended from Hashim; Ali is her son—know this.

To Hashim, and her son Ali the conqueror.

وصَعبَةُ بِنتُ الحَضرَمِي أُمُّ طَلعَةٍ

وصَعبَةُ بِنتُ الحَضرَمِي أُمُّ طَلعَةٍ

وَهِي مِن بني قَحطَانَ أهلِ القَنَا السُّمرِ

وَهِي مِن بني قَحطَانَ أهلِ القَنَا السُّمرِ

And Sa'bah, daughter of al-Hadrami, is the mother of Tal'ah.

And Sa'bah daughter of Hadhrami, mother of Tal'ah

And she is of Banu Qahtan, wielders of dusky spears.

And she is from Qahtan, the people of beauty and fecundity.

صَفَيَّةُ عَبدُ المُطَلِب أبُّهَا ابنُهَا الز

صَفَيَّةُ عَبدُ المُطَلِب أبُّهَا ابنُهَا الز

زبَيرُ وَمِن عَمَّاتِ خَيرِ الوَرَى البَدِرِي

زبَيرُ وَمِن عَمَّاتِ خَيرِ الوَرَى البَدِرِي

Safiyyah—Abd al-Muttalib is her father; her son is al-

Safiyya daughter of Abd al-Muttalib, her father her son al-Zubayr

Zubayr; and she is among the paternal aunts of the best of mankind, the moonlike one.

And from the aunts of the best of creation, the full moon.

وحَمنةُ سُفيَانُ أبُّهَا ابنُ أمَيَةٍ

وحَمنةُ سُفيَانُ أبُّهَا ابنُ أمَيَةٍ

وَسَعدُ ابنُها ذُو البَذلِ في اليُسرِ والعُسرِ

وَسَعدُ ابنُها ذُو البَذلِ في اليُسرِ والعُسرِ

And Hamnah—her father is Sufyan, son of Umayyah.

And Hamnah, Sufyan her father, son of Umayyah

And Sa'd is her son, generous in ease and hardship.

And Sa'd her son, generous in ease and unease.

وفَاطِمَةٌ بِنتُ الخُزَاعي بَعجَةٍ

وفَاطِمَةٌ بِنتُ الخُزَاعي بَعجَةٍ

سَعِيدُ ابنُهَا ذُو الفَضلِ في السِّرِّ والجَهرِ

سَعِيدُ ابنُهَا ذُو الفَضلِ في السِّرِّ والجَهرِ

And Fatimah is the daughter of Ba'jah the Khuza'i.

And Fatimah daughter of Khuza'i, Ba'jah,

Sa'id is her son, endowed with virtue in private and in public.

Said her son, virtuous in private and public.

وذَا عَابِدُ الرَّحمَنِ إِن شِئت أُمَّهُ

وذَا عَابِدُ الرَّحمَنِ إِن شِئت أُمَّهُ

فَهِىَّ الشِّفَا عَوفٌ أبُوهَا بِلاَ نُكرِ

فَهِىَّ الشِّفَا عَوفٌ أبُوهَا بِلاَ نُكرِ

And this is Abid al-Rahman; if you wish to know his mother,

And the worshipper of the Merciful, if you wish her mother

she is al-Shifa; Awf is her father, beyond dispute.

She is well-being, her father Auf, without blemish.

أُمَيمَةُ غُنمٍ أبُّهَا وابنُها أُبُو

أُمَيمَةُ غُنمٍ أبُّهَا وابنُها أُبُو

عُبَيدَةَ ذَانِ أنسُبهُمَا لِبني فَهرِ

عُبَيدَةَ ذَانِ أنسُبهُمَا لِبني فَهرِ

Umaymah—Ghunm is her father, and her son is Abu

Ummaymah of Ghunm, her father, and her son Abu

Ubaydah; I trace these two to Banu Fihr.

Ubaydah, the two noblest lineage back to Banu Fahm.
