وإبرِيقٍand a ewer بِهىٍّsplendid فِيهِin it شَىُّsomething
مِنَof التَّصوِيرِthe imagery مَومُوقٌcherished بَهِيُّbeautiful
And a splendid ewer, bearing some
A pitcher with a luster in it, alluring
Imagery, cherished and beautiful.
In its depiction, beautifully decorated
لِفَرطِfor the intensity of بَرِيقِهِits brilliance تَحجُوهُyou deem it بَرقاًlightning
تَأَلَّقَflashed فيin تَأَلُّقِهِits radiance وَنِيُّfeeble
For its intense brilliance, you take it for lightning,
Its clarity makes you see it as lightning
Yet lightning flashes faintly beside its radiance.
Dazzling in its brilliance, luminescent
تَرَىyou see النَّادِىthe gathering والكَاسَاتُand the cups فِيهِin it
ومَاand not الكَاسَاتُthe cups فِيهِin it وَلاَnor النَّدِيَّthe gathering
You see the gathering and the cups in it,
You can see the drinking companions and the cups in it
Yet neither the cups nor the gathering are in it.
Yet there are no cups in it, nor drinking companions
سَقَانيhe gave me to drink رِيقَهُits saliva شَاهاًtea شَهِيًّاdelicious
نَدِىُّgenerous; literally moist الكَفِّthe hand أروَعٌnoble; impressive أريَحِيُّopenhearted; generous
I was given its saliva to drink—delicious tea—
Its draught has quenched me, making me a stately king
By one of generous hand, noble and openhearted.
The dew of the palm is more wondrous, more fragrant
عَلَىon جَنَبَاتِthe sides of أَكؤُسِهِhis cups رَشَاشٌdroplets
كَمَاjust as رَشَحتoozed مِنَfrom العَسَلِthe honey النَّحِيُّthe leather skins
On the sides of his cups are droplets,
On the sides of its cups are splashes
As leather skins ooze honey.
As the pure honey oozes freely
