لَمdid not يَفتَأِcease الناسُthe people حَتّىuntil أَحدَثواthey introduced بِدَعاًinnovations
لَم يَفتَأِ الناسُ حَتّى أَحدَثوا بِدَعاً
فيin الدينِreligion بِالرَأيِthrough opinion لَمnot يُبعَثbe sent بِهاwith them الرُسُلُthe messengers
في الدينِ بِالرَأيِ لَم يُبعَث بِها الرُسُلُ
People persisted until they introduced innovations
The people did not cease until they innovated heresies,
In religion through opinion, with which no messengers were sent,
In religion, with opinions the messengers were not sent with.
حَتّىuntil اِستَخَفَّshowed disregard بِحَقِّfor the due of اللَهِGod أَكثَرُهُمmost of them
حَتّى اِستَخَفَّ بِحَقِّ اللَهِ أَكثَرُهُم
وَفيand in الَّذيthat which حَمَلواthey bore مِنof حَقِّهِHis due شُغِلواthey were occupied
وَفي الَّذي حَمَلوا مِن حَقِّهِ شُغِلوا
Until most of them made light of God's due,
Until most of them took the right of Allah lightly,
And they were occupied with the duty to Him they bore.
And they were preoccupied with what they carried of His right.
