Knowledge is the seedbed of all glory, so take pride.

And beware lest the glory of that seedbed elude you.

And know that knowledge is not attained

By one whose concern is food or clothing.

Not so the companion of knowledge, who devotes himself to it

In both his states, naked or clothed.

So give yourself an ample share of it,

And for its sake forsake the sweetness of sleep, and frown.

So perhaps one day, when you attend a gathering,

You will be the leader and the pride of that gathering.
