رَأيْتُI saw القنَاعَةcontentment َ رَأْسَpinnacle الغنَىwealth
فصِرتُso I became بأَذْيَالِهَاto its hems مُمْتَسِكْclinging
I saw Contentment as the crown of wealth,
I saw contentment as the pinnacle of wealth.
so I clung fast to her trailing skirts.
So I began to cling to its hems.
فلاso not ذاthis one يرانيsees me علىat بابهِhis door
وَلاnor ذاthis one يَرَانيsees me بهِwith him مُنْهمِكْpreoccupied
Thus this man does not see me at his door,
So no one sees me at his door,
nor does that man see me wholly engrossed in him.
Nor does anyone see me preoccupied with him.
فصرتُso I became غَنِيّاًrich بِلاwithout دِرْهَمa dirham
أمرُّI pass علىby النَّاسِthe people شبهَlike الملكthe king
And so I became rich without a single dirham,
So I became rich without a dirham;
I pass among the people almost like a king.
I pass by people like a king.
