وَدارَيتُ كُلَّ الناسَ لَكِن حاسِدي

وَدارَيتُ كُلَّ الناسَ لَكِن حاسِدي

مُداراتُهُ عَزَّت وَعَزَّ مَنالُها

مُداراتُهُ عَزَّت وَعَزَّ مَنالُها

And I dealt tactfully with everyone, but my envier—

appeasing him proved difficult, and hard to achieve.

وَكَيفَ يُداري المَرءُ حاسِدَ نِعمَةٍ

وَكَيفَ يُداري المَرءُ حاسِدَ نِعمَةٍ

إِذا كانَ لا يُرضيهِ إِلّا زَوالُها

إِذا كانَ لا يُرضيهِ إِلّا زَوالُها

And how can one appease someone who envies a blessing,

when nothing pleases him but its loss?
