إِذاif المَرءُa man أَفشىdivulges سِرَّهُhis secret بِلِسانِهِwith his tongue
إِذا المَرءُ أَفشى سِرَّهُ بِلِسانِهِ
وَلامَand blames عَليهِfor it غَيرَهُsomeone other than himself فَهُوَthen he is أَحمَقُa fool
وَلامَ عَليهِ غَيرَهُ فَهُوَ أَحمَقُ
If a man divulges his secret with his tongue,
and blames another for it, he is a fool.
إِذاif ضاقَis too narrow صَدرُthe breast of المَرءِthe man عَنfor سِرِّthe secret of نَفسِهِhis own self
إِذا ضاقَ صَدرُ المَرءِ عَن سِرِّ نَفسِهِ
فَصَدرُthen the breast of الَّذيthe one who يُستَودَعُis entrusted with السِرَّthe secret أَضيَقُis narrower
فَصَدرُ الَّذي يُستَودَعُ السِرَّ أَضيَقُ
If a man's breast is too narrow to hold his own secret,
then the breast of one entrusted with the secret is narrower still.
