سَأَضرِبُI shall travel فيthrough طولِthe length of البِلادِthe lands وَعَرضِهاand their breadth
سَأَضرِبُ في طولِ البِلادِ وَعَرضِها
أَنالُI shall attain مُراديmy desire أَوor أَموتُI shall die غَريباa stranger
أَنالُ مُرادي أَو أَموتُ غَريبا
I shall travel the length and breadth of the lands.
I will travel the length and breadth of the land
I shall attain my desire or die a stranger.
To get what I want or die a stranger
فَإِنso if تَلِفَتperishes نَفسيmy soul فَلِلَّهِthen to God belongs دَرُّهاits excellence (an expression of praise)
فَإِن تَلِفَت نَفسي فَلِلَّهِ دَرُّها
وَإِنand if سَلِمَتsurvives كانَwill be الرُجوعُthe return قَريباsoon
وَإِن سَلِمَت كانَ الرُجوعُ قَريبا
So if my soul perishes, may God bless it;
If I lose my soul, it was meant by God
And if it survives, my return will be soon.
If I'm spared, my return will be soon
