And many a calamity leaves a young man distressed,
For oft when first affliction doth assail
His endurance strained, yet with God lies the way out of it.
A man will find the pain too hard to bear.

It tightened; then, when its rings closed fast,
Yet when the meshes of distress grow stale
It was relieved, though I had thought it would not be relieved.
They loosen, though at first beyond all care.
