وَماand not كُنتُI was راضٍcontent مِنof زَمانيmy time بِماwith what تَرىyou see
وَما كُنتُ راضٍ مِن زَماني بِما تَرى
وَلَكِنَّنيand yet I راضٍcontent بِماwith what حَكَمَdecreed الدَهرُTime
وَلَكِنَّني راضٍ بِما حَكَمَ الدَهرُ
And I was not content with what you see of my time.
And I was not pleased with my time as you saw
Yet I am content with what Time has decreed.
But I am pleased with what fate has ruled
فَإِنso if كانَتhad الأَيّامُthe days خانَتbetrayed عُهودَناour pledges
فَإِن كانَت الأَيّامُ خانَت عُهودَنا
فَإِنّيthen I بِهاwith them راضٍcontent وَلَكِنَّهاand yet they قَهرُoppression
فَإِنّي بِها راضٍ وَلَكِنَّها قَهرُ
So if the days have betrayed our pledges,
If the days have betrayed our covenants
then I am content with them, yet they are oppressive.
Then I am pleased with it but it is tyranny
