العِلمُknowledge مِنamong فَضلِهِits favors لِمَنto whoever خَدَمَهُserves it
أَنthat يَجعَلَit makes الناسَpeople كُلَّهُمall of them خَدَمَهhis servants
Among knowledge’s favors to one who serves it
Knowledge, by its virtue, makes all people its servants
is that it makes all people his servants.
It is right to protect it as one protects his honor and life
فَواجِبٌso it is obligatory صَونَهُsafeguarding it عَلَيهِupon him كَماjust as
يَصونُhe safeguards فيamong الناسِpeople عِرضَهُhis honor وَدَمَهand his blood
So he must safeguard it, just as
Whoever possesses knowledge but entrusts it
he safeguards his honor and his blood among people.
To the ignorant betrays it unjustly
فَمَنso whoever حَوىacquired العِلمَknowledge ثُمَّthen أَودَعَهُentrusted it
بِجَهلِهِthrough his ignorance غَيرَother than أَهلِهِthose worthy of it ظَلَمَهwronged it
So whoever acquires knowledge and then entrusts it
through his ignorance to those unworthy of it has wronged it.
