Go abroad from your native lands in pursuit of eminence,
and travel, for journeys offer five benefits:
تَفَرُّجُrelief from هَمٍّworry وَاِكتِسابُand earning مَعيشَةٍa livelihood
وَعِلمٌand knowledge وَآدابٌand good manners وَصُحبَةُand companionship with ماجِدِa noble man
relief from worry and earning a livelihood,
and knowledge, good manners, and the company of a noble man.
وَإِنand if قيلَit is said فيin الأَسفارِjourneys ذُلٌّhumiliation وَمِحنَةٌand hardship

And even if it is said that journeys bring humiliation and hardship,
crossing deserts and incurring adversities,
فَمَوتُthen the death of الفَتىthe young man خَيرٌbetter لَهُfor him مِنthan حَياتِهِhis life

then a young man's death is better for him than his life
in an abode of humiliation, among a slanderer and an envier.
